Mistral AI Secures Record-Breaking €3B in European Tech Funding, Led by Samsung

French AI titan, Mistral AI, has successfully concluded a monumental €3 billion ($3.5 billion) Series D funding round. This achievement solidifies its status as Europe’s leading artificial intelligence firm. The round, made public on September 8, 2026, is hailed as the most substantial equity fundraising round ever accomplished by a European technology company. This has propelled Mistral’s post-money valuation to an impressive €21 billion (~$24 billion).

Leading the round was Samsung Electronics, which pledged approximately €1 billion. Co-leads included the EU-endorsed Scaleup Europe Fund managed by EQT, and existing investor PSG Equity. New supporters encompass Advent, funds overseen by BlackRock, and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Meanwhile, existing investors such as a16z, ASML, NVIDIA, and Salesforce Ventures also contributed.

CEO Arthur Mensch disclosed to CNBC that the capital will be allocated towards constructing and owning data centers across Europe, leasing additional compute capacity, and hastening Mistral’s international expansion. The company currently operates in 20 countries and caters to over 125 enterprise clients, including Airbus, ASML, and HSBC. In early 2026, Mistral’s annual recurring revenue exceeded $400 million, with the company forecasting to hit $1 billion ARR by the end of 2026. Since its September 2025 Series C, Mistral’s valuation has nearly doubled from the €11.7 billion mark.
