FAA Certifies Boeing 737 MAX 10 After Nearly a Decade

In a landmark moment for the aviation industry, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officially certified the Boeing 737 MAX 10 on October 20, 2026. The approval completes the MAX narrowbody family after nearly a decade of regulatory scrutiny, design reviews, and extensive testing.

Boeing’s largest 737 variant is designed to compete directly with the Airbus A321neo. It also features a key safety upgrade: a backup digital cross-check system that monitors sensors and provides pilots with clearer alerts when anomalies occur.

According to Boeing, the certification program included nearly 1,000 test flights and comprehensive safety assessments. FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said the decision followed a thorough review and that the agency would continue holding Boeing to the highest safety standards as production ramps up.

The certification clears the way for deliveries to domestic and international carriers. Akasa Air has 90 MAX 10s on order and expects its first delivery in 2027, while Air India Express has committed to 10 aircraft.

The MAX 10 can carry more passengers per flight than smaller MAX variants, offering airlines improved economics on high-demand routes. Its approval marks a significant milestone for Boeing as it works to restore its reputation after years of challenges with the broader 737 MAX program.
