World Cruise Disrupted: MV Odyssey Leaves 203 Passengers Stranded in Cambodia

SIHANOUKVILLE, Cambodia, October 28, 2026 — The MV Odyssey, a residential cruise ship operated by Florida-based Villa Vie Residences, has abruptly suspended its around-the-world voyage, leaving approximately 203 passengers from 15 nationalities stranded at the Cambodian port of Sihanoukville.

The vessel set sail more than two years ago on a planned 3.5-year voyage covering over 425 destinations. Marketed as “a new way to live” at sea, the cruise offered cabins starting at around $230,000, with monthly fees ranging from $3,299 to $9,500.

However, the war in Iran has disrupted supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, driving monthly fuel costs per cabin from a historical average of $1,800 to an estimated $6,000–$8,000 in parts of Asia.

Villa Vie Residences said it had exhausted options to reduce consumption but could not offset the losses. “We have been unable to continue carrying the resulting operating losses,” the company stated, adding that it is evaluating restructuring and recapitalization alternatives.

Passengers received short notice to disembark and find alternative accommodation, with many reporting little to no assistance from the company. The fate of the ship’s 156 crew members remains unclear.
