The Civil Air Patrol (CAP), the U.S. Air Force’s official civilian auxiliary and the world’s largest operator of Cessna aircraft, has placed a significant order for 21 new Cessna piston aircraft from Textron Aviation (NYSE: TXT) to bolster its nationwide emergency response and training capabilities. The order, announced on October 21, 2026, is set to bring CAP’s already impressive fleet to nearly 565 aircraft.
The purchase comprises seven Cessna Skyhawk 172s, 11 Cessna Skylane 182s, two Cessna Turbo Skylane T182Ts, and one Cessna Turbo Stationair HD 206 — a diverse mix tailored to the organization’s multi-mission role. Deliveries are anticipated to be completed in 2027, with aircraft destined for search-and-rescue operations, disaster response, and youth aviation programs across all 1,424 of CAP’s operating locations.
CAP boasts a membership of 72,000 — including 35,000 adults and 37,000 youth cadets — and has logged nearly 200,000 flight hours, completed 860 search-and-rescue missions, and saved 104 lives since October 2024. Major General Regena Aye, CAP’s national commander and CEO, emphasized that the new Cessna aircraft will ensure members are “ready when communities need us.” All aircraft will be equipped with modern Garmin avionics suites for enhanced mission safety.
