EHang Holdings Limited (Nasdaq: EH), widely recognized as the world’s leading Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) technology platform company, has announced a landmark sandbox cooperation agreement with the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) to explore the safety, technical, and regulatory framework for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft operations within Malaysia’s emerging low-altitude economy.
The agreement, announced at Transport Expo Asia (TXA) 2026 held October 20–22 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Kuala Lumpur, adds Malaysia to EHang’s growing list of overseas regulatory sandbox partnerships, which previously included Thailand, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Hong Kong. EHang’s flagship EH216-S autonomous air vehicle was prominently displayed at the expo.
Areas of cooperation under the sandbox include airworthiness, operational safety, personnel competency, and maintenance arrangements for eVTOL aircraft. CAAM will participate in its official regulatory capacity, and any proposed demonstration or trial flight will require separate approvals from CAAM and relevant authorities before proceeding.
“Malaysia embraces the low-altitude economy as a national opportunity, and we are building the regulatory framework for it through an iterative, learn-by-doing approach, with safety as non-negotiable,” said Dato’ Mohamed Sharil Tarmizi, Chairman of CAAM. With its thriving aviation sector and diverse island and coastal tourism industry, Malaysia is seen as a prime candidate for future AAM commercial operations.
