New aviation data for October 2026 reveals that Vietnam is leading Southeast Asia’s airline capacity growth, emerging as one of the region’s most dynamic tourism markets and reshaping travel trends across the continent.

According to analysis published by Travel and Tour World, Vietnam’s airline seat capacity is rising 10.6% year-on-year, outpacing regional rivals by a wide margin. In contrast, Indonesia is expanding at a more modest 4.7%, while Thailand is experiencing a slight 1.7% contraction and Malaysia is facing a significant 8% decline — equivalent to approximately 470,200 fewer seats compared to last October.

Thailand remains the second-largest market among the four countries, retaining 7.4 million scheduled seats this month, though its contraction highlights growing competitive pressure. Meanwhile, mainline carriers across the region increased capacity by 5.5% to 28.3 million seats, while low-cost carriers reduced capacity by 3.7% to 22.6 million — dropping their share of regional capacity from 47% to 44%.

The data signals a pivotal shift in Southeast Asian tourism, with Vietnam increasingly positioned as a must-visit destination for international travelers seeking vibrant culture, stunning landscapes, and expanding air connectivity.
