Introducing SkyHound: A Revolutionary Leap in Cockpit Safety
A bold new player has emerged in the realm of general aviation avionics. Hound Avionics, a Connecticut-based startup, is the brainchild of pilots and engineers who were dissatisfied with the existing portable ADS-B solutions. They have recently unveiled SkyHound, a groundbreaking device touted as the world’s first all-in-one, portable, subscription-free ADS-B In traffic and weather display designed specifically for general aviation cockpits.
Setting SkyHound apart from other portable ADS-B receivers in the market is its fully integrated, built-in traffic and weather display. It eliminates the need for a tablet, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi connection, and even a monthly subscription. The concept was born out of the frustration of co-founder Sholom Ellenberg who, after failing to find such a device, decided to create one with a team of fellow tech enthusiasts.
Using SkyHound is as easy as it gets: simply place the device on your glareshield, power it on, and you’re ready to fly. The device relies solely on external power, a deliberate design decision aimed at achieving FAA NORSEE (Non-Required Safety Enhancing Equipment) approval. This significant milestone could be announced as early as the EAA AirVenture at Oshkosh this summer. SkyHound is expected to start shipping in July 2026, and Hound Avionics is set to showcase the device at Oshkosh with a special introductory price.
