First Sale of Do228 NXT Turboprop Aircraft Announced by GA-ATS

German aircraft manufacturer General Atomics AeroTec Systems (GA-ATS) has announced the first commercial sale of its new-generation Do228 NXT turboprop aircraft. The launch customer, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) engaged in humanitarian operations, has chosen to remain anonymous for operational security reasons. The delivery is scheduled for early 2027.

The announcement came shortly after the Do228 NXT made its public debut at the ILA Berlin Airshow (June 10–14, 2026) and its official roll-out ceremony at GA-ATS’s facility in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany on June 8. This marked the first time in many years that a newly manufactured German aircraft series had been publicly unveiled.

Building upon the legacy of the iconic Dornier 228-200, the Do228 NXT boasts a modernised glass cockpit with four Universal avionics displays and a digital autopilot. It also features five-blade propellers replacing the previous four-blade design for reduced fuel burn and a lower noise footprint. The updated cabin interior accommodates up to 19 passengers and can be easily converted between passenger and cargo configurations. Powering the aircraft are two Honeywell TPE331-10 turboprop engines, each delivering 579 kW (776 shaft horsepower).

The NGO plans to deploy the aircraft across various missions, including:

  • Search and rescue
  • Medical evacuation
  • Disaster relief
  • Logistics
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Emergency response in challenging environments

“We are very pleased that the contracts for the first Do228 NXT have been signed,” said Florian Rohe, Managing Director at GA-ATS.
