American Airlines Reinstates Venezuela Flights After a Seven-Year Break

American Airlines declared on April 20, 2026, that tickets are now available for daily nonstop flights between Miami and Caracas, Venezuela. This marks the airline’s significant return to the South American country after a seven-year hiatus. The service commences on April 30, 2026, making American the first U.S. airline to reestablish service to Venezuela since operations were halted in 2019.

The daily flights will be facilitated by Envoy Air, an American Airlines subsidiary, using Embraer 175 dual-class aircraft accommodating 76 passengers. Departures from Miami International Airport are scheduled at 10:16 a.m. ET, with arrivals in Caracas at 1:36 p.m. ET. Return flights leave Caracas at 2:40 p.m. ET and touch down in Miami at 6:13 p.m. ET. The 1,360-mile route was one of the most heavily trafficked corridors between the United States and Venezuela prior to the suspension.

American Airlines served in Venezuela from 1987 until March 2019 and was the largest U.S. carrier in the country before suspending service. The route’s comeback follows recent amendments in U.S.-Venezuela policy and diplomatic relations. The airline received approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation in March 2026, with additional security validation conducted by the Transportation Security Administration. Despite these changes, the Department of State maintains a Level 3 travel advisory, urging Americans to reconsider travel to Venezuela due to the risk of crime, kidnapping, terrorism, and inadequate health infrastructure.
