Dubai International Airport: On the Fast Track to Recovery with Expanding Flight Operations
Dubai International Airport (DXB) is back in full swing as of today, April 17, 2026. The world’s busiest international hub is making a robust recovery from the regional airspace disruptions that started in late February, with a steadily growing flight schedule.
All three terminals are now humming with activity, processing both arrivals and departures. Real-time flight data reveals a flurry of flights handled this morning. This includes Emirates services to Melbourne, Christchurch, and Dammam, as well as flydubai operations. The combined daily departures for Emirates and flydubai have recently surpassed 220 flights—marking the highest levels since the onset of the crisis.
Since mid-March, the airport has been operating on a limited but gradually increasing schedule. The recent U.S.-Iran ceasefire has led to the opening of more authorized corridors, enabling airlines to boost their services. Emirates is currently flying to 125 of its usual 140 global destinations and is poised to return to full operations shortly.
However, foreign-based airlines are still limited to one daily round-trip to DXB and Al Maktoum International Airport until May 31, according to recent reports. Major international carriers, including Lufthansa Group airlines, British Airways, KLM, and Air France, have extended suspensions through May or June. However, the situation is fluid and continues to evolve.
Industry observers have lauded Dubai International Airport’s ability to remain open and progressively expand services during a period of regional uncertainty. They note that this highlights its pivotal role as a global super-connector linking Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. As more routes are expected to be added weekly, optimism is mounting for a robust summer travel season.
