Private Jet Overruns Las Vegas Runway, Prompting Temporary Closure
A Dassault Falcon 50 business jet, bearing the registration N200SG, veered off the end of Runway 1L at the Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (KLAS) on the morning of Sunday, October 18, 2026. The incident occurred after the crew aborted their takeoff at approximately 10:52 a.m. local time. The aircraft, which was headed for Toronto Pearson International Airport, had eight people on board.
As reported by Aviation Week, the jet was still moving at a speed of 119 knots when it passed a runway exit about 1,000 feet from the threshold. It eventually overran the pavement at approximately 70 knots. In a bid to avoid runway lights and the perimeter fence, the crew swerved sharply to the right. However, the aircraft’s left wingtip struck the fence, causing significant damage. Despite this, no injuries were reported among the occupants.
This incident led to the temporary closure of both parallel north-south runways — 1L and 1R — for inspection, resulting in a temporary FAA ground stop. Flight tracking data reveals that around 330 flights were delayed, with average delays exceeding one hour and the longest delay reaching 3 hours and 15 minutes. The FAA has since initiated an investigation into the cause of the aborted takeoff. The reason behind the crew’s decision to discontinue the takeoff remains unclear.
