Delta Announces $1B Investment in Premium Cabin Upgrade Featuring New Delta One Suites
Delta Air Lines has unveiled its largest-ever fleet upgrade investment, amounting to over $1 billion. This move introduces the next-generation Delta One business class suites and comes as U.S. carriers are ramping up competition for high-spending premium travelers.
The upgraded suites are set to make their debut on Delta’s new Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, which is expected to arrive in early 2027. The new suites will feature:
- Flat beds that are three inches longer (more than six-and-a-half feet total)
- Larger 24-inch 4K entertainment screens
- New pillow-top cushions
- Wireless charging and Bluetooth connectivity
- Thoughtful storage including cubbies for shoes and hooks for eyeglasses
“The design of our next-generation Delta One suite took two years, and every detail was intentional,” said Mauricio Parise, Delta’s vice president of brand experience. “We worked with our partners to apply insights from our ten years of customer data on suites.”
The investment includes retrofitting 62 aircraft by 2030. For the first time, Delta is also adding suites with privacy doors to its Airbus A330-200 and A330-300 fleet. The A350-1000 will feature an unprecedented 53 Delta One suites—33% more than any current Delta aircraft—representing a 50% premium seat mix. A dedicated Delta One refreshment station will provide passengers with self-service access to snacks.
The announcement comes at a time when premium travel demand remains strong despite rising fuel costs. Delta is directly competing against United Airlines’ new Polaris Studio suites and American Airlines’ Flagship Suite offerings in an unprecedented premium cabin arms race.
