Portugal Adopts Tecnam P-Mentor for Air Force Training: A Leap Towards Modernization
The Portuguese Air Force has taken a significant step towards modernizing its pilot training program by selecting the Tecnam P-Mentor as its new elementary flight trainer. The Ministry of National Defense awarded the contract through Spanish aviation provider, World Aviation, which is set to deliver seven aircraft along with comprehensive support.
The agreement encompasses synthetic training systems, flight instructor training, and a five-year integrated logistics support package. This package will cover both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. The Italian-built P-Mentor, equipped with a 100-horsepower Rotax 912iSc3 engine and a Garmin G3X digital glass cockpit, provides students with state-of-the-art avionics training from the get-go.
“The P-Mentor was designed to revolutionize flight training by offering the most modern, safe, and cost-effective platform on the market,” said Walter Da Costa, Tecnam’s chief sales officer.
With the ability to cruise at 117 knots and achieve an endurance of 9 hours and 30 minutes, the aircraft is ideally suited for extended training missions.
World Aviation, already operating five Tecnam P2008JC aircraft, has logged over 20,000 flight hours while training more than 2,000 students. This selection not only reinforces Tecnam’s growing presence in military training programs across Europe but also validates the P-Mentor as a credible platform for preparing the next generation of military aviators.
