magniX Launches Pre-Orders for Innovative Electric Engine Aimed at Homebuilders

Electric aviation company based in Everett, Washington, magniX, has officially begun accepting pre-orders for their revolutionary magniAIR electric engine. This marks a significant move towards introducing electric propulsion to general aviation pilots. The announcement was made on July 20, 2026 at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, where it was revealed that customers can now secure a spot in the production line with a $2,000 deposit.

The magniAIR is a 175-kilowatt, air-cooled electric engine that weighs a mere 55 kg. It is designed for kit planes, light sport aircraft, and flight training operations currently powered by 120–175 kW piston engines. Sales packages will include an integrated powertrain featuring magniX Samson batteries (rated at up to 400 Wh/kg at cell level) and a full firewall-forward installation kit for select popular kit planes. The first deliveries of magniAIR engines are expected to commence in 2027.

magniX is currently integrating the magniAIR into a Van’s RV-10 kit plane, with a maiden flight scheduled for early 2027. Future stages of the program will target electric trainers and light-sport aircraft under the FAA’s MOSAIC framework. “This is an exciting milestone in the magniAIR program,” stated Reed Macdonald, CEO of magniX, adding that the engine is set to revolutionize aircraft ownership and popularize recreational flying by significantly reducing operating costs.
