Three-Month-Old AI Chip Startup Tenspresso Seeks $500M Valuation—Without a Finished Chip
In a striking signal of investor appetite for AI hardware talent, Tenspresso, a three-month-old AI chip startup based in Sunnyvale, California, is in talks to raise at least $50 million at a $500 million valuation, according to Bloomberg.
The startup was co-founded by Dong Hyuk Woo and Harshit Khaitan, two former engineers who spent several years working together on Google’s Tensor Processing Units (TPUs). Tenspresso’s 15-person team is largely made up of veterans from Google’s early AI chip development groups.
The company is developing chips focused on long context windows—a specialized capability that allows AI models to process larger and more complex datasets simultaneously.
What makes the funding talks particularly eye-catching is that Tenspresso’s first chip design is not expected to be completed until late 2027 or early 2028. Despite having no finished product, Altimeter Capital Management approached the startup about additional investment shortly after it raised an initial $20 million from Striker Venture Partners.
The company is also in talks with manufacturing partners outside the traditional silicon supply chain used by Nvidia and Google. It hopes to avoid component backlogs and secure production capacity at TSMC.
