Amazon has stirred the consumer tech world with the launch of two new AI-powered wearable devices under its Bee brand — a startup it acquired in 2025 for approximately $300 million. The Bee Frontier ($74.99) and the Bee Eclipse ($99.99) are designed to listen to users’ daily conversations, transcribe them, and automatically generate summaries, reminders, and action items — all hands-free.
The Bee Frontier is a silicone wristband that can also clip to clothing, is IP67 water-resistant, and offers up to seven days of battery life. The Bee Eclipse is a credit-card-sized device that attaches magnetically to MagSafe or Qi2-compatible smartphones, primarily designed for call transcription. Both devices integrate with Gmail, Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, and Amazon’s own Alexa+ assistant. A premium Bee Pro subscription is available for $11.99/month.
However, the launch has been met with significant privacy backlash. Security experts, including a former AWS security engineer, warn that the device’s consent indicator light only notifies the wearer — not the bystanders being recorded. A commissioned security audit by Trail of Bits found four of 21 identified issues were not fully resolved at launch. Amazon says it has built in safeguards including an active LED light and automatic shutoff features.
