McFarlane Aviation Shatters OEM Monopoly with New FAA-Approved Cessna Flap Motor

Kansas-based McFarlane Aviation has revolutionized the general aviation parts market with the introduction of the first-ever FAA-PMA approved aftermarket 24–28V wing flap motor. This innovation serves more than 80 popular Cessna and Beechcraft aircraft, effectively ending decades of single-source dependency on the original equipment manufacturer (OEM).

The new part, AFC301002-0121, is a direct replacement for OEM part number C301002-0121. It’s compatible with virtually all of Cessna’s classic piston fleet, including the 152, 172, 177, 182, 206, 207, and 210 models, as well as Beechcraft Bonanza and Baron families. This exact motor is utilized by tens of thousands of airframes across the country and worldwide.

McFarlane’s new motor delivers more than just competition. It offers measurable technical improvements:

  • Reduces the likelihood of tripping the aircraft’s flap motor circuit breaker, a chronic issue on these models.
  • Offers superior resistance to demagnetization of permanent magnets at sub-zero temperatures — a known weakness of the OEM part.
  • Varnish-sealed motor windings add further durability by locking coil wires in place and improving electrical insulation.

The OEM motor retails for approximately $1,497, while McFarlane’s is priced at $1,197 — a saving of $300 per unit. For the aging GA piston fleet, the availability of a second certified source is a significant long-term reliability win.
