McFarlane Aviation Shatters OEM Monopoly with Innovative FAA-PMA Flap Motor
In a groundbreaking development for the general aviation maintenance sector, McFarlane Aviation has been granted FAA Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) for the first-ever aftermarket 24–28V wing flap motor. This motor is compatible with over 80 Cessna and Beechcraft aircraft models. This announcement, made on June 6, 2026, concludes years of dependence on a single OEM source for one of general aviation’s most commonly installed components.
The newly approved part, labeled as AFC301002-0121, serves as a direct substitute for OEM part number C301002-0121. It fits iconic Cessna models such as the 152, 172, 177, 182, 206, 207, and 210 series, as well as Beechcraft Bonanza and Baron families. Until now, tens of thousands of airframes across the GA fleet have relied on a single-source part for this motor. McFarlane’s version is priced at a competitive $1,197, a full $300 less than the OEM equivalent, which retails for approximately $1,497.
Apart from the price advantage, McFarlane’s new motor boasts improved engineering. It:
- Reduces the tendency to trip the aircraft’s flap motor circuit breaker
- Resists permanent magnet demagnetization at subzero temperatures — a known issue with the OEM part
- Features varnish-sealed motor windings that stabilize coil wires and enhance electrical insulation
For the aging piston fleet, the introduction of a second supply source provides crucial supply chain resilience. McFarlane Aviation, based in Baldwin City, Kansas, has been manufacturing FAA-PMA aircraft components since 1971.
