McFarlane Aviation Shatters OEM Monopoly with Pioneering PMA Flap Motor

In a landmark victory for both general aviation aircraft owners and MRO shops, McFarlane Aviation has proudly announced FAA-PMA approval for the first-ever aftermarket 24–28V flap motor for the classic piston fleet. This breakthrough ends decades of reliance on a single original equipment manufacturer (OEM) source.

The innovative part, aptly designated AFC301002-0121, serves as a direct replacement for OEM P/N C301002-0121. It is compatible with over 80 Cessna and Beechcraft models. This includes the widely popular Cessna 152, 172, 177, 182, 206, 207, and 210 lines, as well as the Beechcraft Bonanza and Baron families. Until now, tens of thousands of airframes have been dependent on that single OEM part number for decades.

McFarlane’s motor addresses several known issues with the OEM part. It reduces the tendency to trip the aircraft’s flap motor circuit breaker, resists demagnetization of permanent magnets at sub-zero temperatures, and features varnish-sealed motor windings for improved electrical insulation and durability. The new motor is priced at $1,197, a significant drop from the approximately $1,497 price tag of the OEM version, offering a $300 savings per unit.

For an aging piston fleet that spans more than half a century, the availability of a second, FAA-certified source means operators are no longer vulnerable to OEM supply chain disruptions or monopoly pricing.
