Aviation Enthusiasts Unite for the 2026 Special Olympics Airlift

The general aviation community is enthusiastically preparing for one of its most inspiring annual traditions: the 2026 Special Olympics Airlift. This heartwarming event is scheduled to take place on June 19 and June 27, 2026. It’s an initiative organized by Textron Aviation (NYSE: TXT), and proudly endorsed by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA).

The event mobilizes hundreds of volunteer pilots, flying Cessna, Beechcraft, and Hawker aircraft, to transport Special Olympics athletes to the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota’s Twin Cities.

Known as the world’s largest peacetime airlift, this event encourages aircraft owners to volunteer their planes, crews, fuel, and time. This ensures that athletes and coaches can attend the Games, overcoming any financial or logistical challenges. Since the airlift’s inception in 1987, owners of Cessna, Beechcraft, and Hawker aircraft have collectively transported more than 10,000 athletes and coaches to Special Olympics events worldwide.

“The Special Olympics Airlift is one of the most inspiring demonstrations of what aviation can do to uplift lives,” said Jack J. Pelton, chairman and CEO of EAA. The participating aircraft — affectionately referred to as Doves — are expected to operate in and out of St. Paul Downtown Airport Holman Field. Owners of Cessna Citation, Beechcraft King Air, and Hawker jets are heartily encouraged to sign up and participate.
