Vaeridion, German Electric Aircraft Startup, Takes Over Lilium’s Battery Plant

Munich-based electric aircraft manufacturer Vaeridion has acquired a specialized battery manufacturing facility at Oberpfaffenhofen airport. The facility was previously operated by the now-defunct air taxi startup Lilium. The acquisition, announced on September 5, 2025, includes a crucial fireproof room and key battery industrialization assets from Lilium’s insolvency administrator.

The facility will serve as the “cornerstone” of Vaeridion’s production system. It is scheduled to become operational by 2026. The primary focus will be on developing and assembling high-performance battery systems. These systems will support initial flight testing of Vaeridion’s nine-seat Microliner aircraft from late 2027 or early 2028.

Vaeridion is targeting type certification and service entry for its all-electric aircraft ahead of 2030. The company has also hired eleven former Lilium engineers and plans to recruit more talent. The acquisition raises questions about the future of Ambitious Air Mobility Group’s (AAMG) planned takeover of Lilium, as the battery facility was central to Lilium’s original air taxi development strategy.
