GE Aerospace Fuels BETA Technologies with $300M Investment for Hybrid Electric Aviation
On September 4, 2025, GE Aerospace unveiled a significant strategic partnership with Vermont-based electric aircraft developer, BETA Technologies. The partnership, highlighted by a $300 million equity investment, aims to pioneer hybrid-electric aviation technology.
As part of the agreement, the two companies will collaborate to develop a hybrid electric turbogenerator for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) applications. This includes the creation of long-range Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) aircraft.
The partnership will utilize the prowess of GE’s T700/CT7 turboshaft engine family, known for powering military helicopters like the UH-60 Black Hawk. This will be combined with BETA’s high-performance electric propulsion systems.
“Partnering with BETA will expand and accelerate hybrid electric technology development, meeting our customers’ needs for differentiated capabilities that provide more range, payload, and optimized engine and aircraft performance,”
– H. Lawrence Culp Jr., GE Aerospace Chairman and CEO
This deal marks a significant milestone for BETA Technologies. It boosts its total funding to $1.45 billion and opens the door to GE’s large-scale manufacturing capabilities. As part of the agreement, GE will also gain the right to designate a director to BETA’s Board.
