Former Amazon Beauty Exec Takes Helm at Supergoop! as CEO
Supergoop!, the groundbreaking SPF brand that has transformed the sun protection industry, recently announced a significant change in its leadership. Former Amazon executive, Melis del Rey, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer and Board Director, effective from December 8, 2024.
Del Rey brings a wealth of experience to the sunscreen giant, with over two decades in the industry. Her most recent role was as General Manager of Amazon U.S. Health and Beauty. Here, she metamorphosed the platform into a dominant player in the prestige beauty market. Her leadership led to Amazon successfully attracting luxury beauty brands that had previously shied away from the platform. This includes major partnerships with L’Oréal Luxe and Estée Lauder Companies.
“Supergoop! is one of those rare brands that defines a category rather than simply participating in it,” said del Rey. “The brand’s commitment to innovation, education, and joyful sun protection has already transformed how people think about SPF.”
Del Rey’s appointment comes in the wake of significant leadership changes at Supergoop!. She replaces Gregory Polcer, who had been serving as interim CEO since May 2024. The company, which was acquired by Blackstone in 2021, is now poised for its “next era of growth” under del Rey’s leadership. Plans are underway to expand consumer connection and bring the brand’s mission to more routines worldwide.
