Learjet 60 Crashes in Florida, Killing All 9 on Board
A devastating general aviation accident claimed nine lives on Sunday, November 1, 2026, when a Bombardier Learjet 60, registration N722BD, crashed into a residential neighborhood in Greenacres, Palm Beach County, Florida.
The aircraft had departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was en route to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas when it entered a catastrophic, high-speed dive.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the aircraft descended from 35,250 feet to 8,750 feet in just one minute—a rate of approximately 350 feet per second. The 22-year-old twin-engine jet struck the ground near Military Trail in the Greenacres community, triggering a massive explosion and fire.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue described the emergency response as an “extended incident.” Florida Governor Ron DeSantis confirmed that there appeared to be no casualties on the ground.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy called the crash a “horrific tragedy.” Austin-Bergstrom International Airport confirmed that the aircraft was operating as a general aviation flight, not a commercial flight.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have dispatched investigation teams to determine the cause. Aviation experts have noted that weather conditions, including icing and turbulence, may have played a role.
