Technical Glitches Force Delta Flight to Abort Takeoff Twice in Sicily
A Delta Air Lines Boeing 767, operating under flight DL245 from Catania, Sicily to New York JFK, was compelled to abort takeoff twice on July 28, 2025. This was due to technical malfunctions. The pilots initially attempted departure from Runway 26 but were met with warning signals indicating a non-essential system issue. After returning to the gate and resetting systems, they made a second attempt from Runway 08. However, they encountered the same issue, necessitating a second abort.
The aircraft in question, a 33.3-year-old Boeing 767 (registration N180DN), remained grounded for a day. During this time, Delta arranged for a spare Boeing 767 to transport the stranded passengers. This incident underscores the challenges airlines face with aging long-haul aircraft, especially when operating far from maintenance hubs.
Despite the setbacks, Delta successfully operated the scheduled flight the following day with the original aircraft, post repairs.
