Nvidia Discloses Monumental $21 Billion Investment in SpaceX
In an unexpected revelation that has rocked both the tech and space sectors, Nvidia has announced a massive $21 billion investment in Elon Musk’s SpaceX. This makes it the second-largest investment for the chipmaker. The news came to light through a regulatory filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, which confirmed that Nvidia owns 122.8 million Class A shares in the rocket and AI company.
The origins of this investment can be traced back to Nvidia’s $10 billion funding in xAI during a $20 billion funding round in January 2026. This was shortly before Musk integrated xAI into SpaceX in February. When SpaceX went public in June, these shares were given a public price tag, valued at $21 billion at the June 30 close of $170.86 per share. However, since then, SpaceX’s stock has dropped to around $140, reducing Nvidia’s position to approximately $17.2 billion.
The bond between these two companies extends beyond just equity. SpaceX has pledged to use Nvidia’s Vera Rubin architecture exclusively for its data centers and anticipates a significant chip allocation in 2027. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has been leveraging the company’s financial strength to establish strategic cross-investments throughout the AI ecosystem, with Intel remaining Nvidia’s largest holding at around $22 billion. Currently, Nvidia is the sixth-largest investor in SpaceX, following Musk himself (≈$850 billion) and Alphabet (≈$78 billion).
