Hut 8 and Anthropic’s Groundbreaking $7B AI Data Center Agreement Revolutionizes Tech Sector
A groundbreaking partnership between Hut 8 Corp. (NASDAQ/TSX: HUT), AI titan Anthropic, and cloud infrastructure provider Fluidstack is swiftly transforming the AI infrastructure landscape in the United States. The deal continues to generate increasing investor enthusiasm.
Central to the agreement is a 15-year, $7 billion data center lease centered on Hut 8’s River Bend campus in Louisiana. Here, an initial 245 megawatts (MW) of AI data center capacity will be developed and delivered. The wider partnership could potentially scale to an impressive 2,295 MW (2.295 gigawatts) across multiple development tranches. This could potentially make the total deal worth up to $18 billion, depending on contingencies.
Alphabet-owned Google is providing a financial backstop for the 15-year term. This highlights the urgency among major cloud players to secure capacity for power-intensive AI workloads. Hut 8 CEO Asher Genoot stated that the company’s power-first development model enables it to construct greenfield data center sites at the speed and scale required by leading AI model developers.
Currently, Hut 8 has over 8.6 gigawatts in development across four U.S. site expansions. Analysts view this deal as a significant shift for the company. Once primarily known for Bitcoin mining, Hut 8 is now emerging as a dominant player in long-duration, AI-focused infrastructure leasing.
