Investigation Underway as Beechcraft BE55 Crashes Near Lancaster, SC

Federal aviation authorities have begun an investigation into the wreckage of a Beechcraft BE55 Baron twin-engine aircraft. The crash occurred near Lancaster, South Carolina in the early morning hours of Thursday, July 2, 2026. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reports that the accident took place at approximately 12:45 a.m. local time, with two individuals on board at the time of the crash.

The flight, originating from Poplarville-Pearl River County Airport in Mississippi, was en route to Stanly County Airport in Albemarle, North Carolina. This involved a night cross-country flight spanning several hundred miles. The cause of the accident remains undetermined. The FAA has confirmed its lead role in the investigation, with potential involvement from the NTSB expected.

The Beechcraft BE55 Baron, a popular twin-engine piston aircraft, is widely used in general aviation for personal and business travel. It is known for its range and speed. This crash in Lancaster County occurs amidst a busy period of general aviation incident activity in the Carolinas region.

Just a day prior, on July 1, an Embraer Phenom 100 collided with a service vehicle on a taxiway at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. This incident also remains under investigation. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in the Raleigh-Durham taxiway event.
