Massachusetts Aviation School Receives Twin-Engine Cessna 310 Donation from Generous Pilot

A remarkable gift has landed at a Massachusetts aviation school, set to revolutionize its training program. Local aviation enthusiast, Benjamin “Ben” Surner, has generously donated a fully operational, airworthy Cessna 310 twin-engine aircraft to the Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) program at Westfield Technical Academy in Westfield, Massachusetts.

The Cessna 310, an iconic American light twin with dual Continental engines, provides students at the career-technical high school with hands-on access to a complex multi-engine aircraft for the first time. This significant addition will be used to teach inspection procedures, engine systems, avionics, and real-world maintenance techniques, all aligned with FAA curriculum standards.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for our students to gain access to a twin-engine aircraft — to better align ourselves with the FAA curriculum,” said Peter Taloumis, Career Technical Education Director at Westfield Tech. Superintendent Stefan Czaporowski echoed this sentiment, stating, “Opportunities like this are transformational for our students.”

The Westfield School Committee formally celebrated and accepted the donation at a recent meeting. Aviation department chair Galen Wilson noted that the aircraft will significantly advance the program’s educational capabilities.
