Curaçao Tourism Skyrockets: U.S. Visitors Outnumber Dutch for the First Time
The Caribbean island of Curaçao is making waves in 2026, cementing its place as one of the fastest-growing holiday destinations in the region. Fresh data published on June 13, 2026, by Travel and Tour World reveals that the Curaçao Tourist Board reports the island is now consistently welcoming over 75,000 monthly stayover visitors, driven by surging demand from both Europe and North America.
In a historic first, the United States briefly surpassed the Netherlands as the island’s primary source market during the spring travel window. This is a dramatic shift for an island that has traditionally relied on Dutch holidaymakers due to its deep constitutional and linguistic ties with the Netherlands. The transformation is being fueled by massive international airlift upgrades, with airlines including American Airlines, TUI, KLM, and Copa Airlines all expanding routes to the island. Copa Airlines alone recorded a 60% passenger growth surge in April.
With 374,000+ stayover visitors already recorded in the first five months of 2026 and nearly 760,000 total visitors including cruise passengers in the first four months alone, Curaçao is also leveraging its unique advantage of sitting completely outside the Atlantic hurricane belt. This is a key selling point for year-round tourism. New luxury resort openings, outdoor adventures, and a strong commitment to marine conservation are further cementing its status as a premier Caribbean getaway.
