MT-Propeller Secures FAA STC for 3-Blade Composite Propeller on Classic Mooney M20 Models

Mooney M20 owners now have a new performance upgrade option. MT-Propeller Entwicklung GmbH, the world’s leading natural composite propeller manufacturer, has announced the acquisition of the FAA Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) SA12421IB. This certificate allows for the installation of its 3-blade MTV-12-B/180-59( ) natural composite propeller on classic Mooney M20 models.

The STC covers M20A, M20B, M20C, and M20D variants powered by Lycoming O-360-A1A, O-360-A1D, and O-360-A2D engines. The new propeller offers several compelling upgrades over the factory original:

  • It is up to 7 kg lighter than the stock propeller
  • Features a bonded stainless steel leading edge for superior erosion protection
  • Delivers best-in-class vibration damping for near-vibration-free operation
  • Comes with unlimited blade life
  • Significant reductions in both cabin and exterior noise levels due to composite construction

Germany-based MT-Propeller, already holding the EASA STC for the same installation, is renowned for producing certified composite propellers for engines ranging from small piston powerplants up to 5,000 hp turbines. The new FAA STC opens the U.S. market for this upgrade, giving owners of these beloved vintage Mooneys a modern, lighter, quieter, and more elegant propeller option that can also boost ramp appeal.
