General Aviation Community Unites for Special Olympics Airlift 2026
The general aviation community is preparing for one of the most inspiring events of 2026: the Special Olympics Airlift. This initiative, organized by Textron Aviation Inc. (NYSE: TXT), has been dubbed the world’s largest peacetime airlift. It mobilizes hundreds of volunteer pilots, flying Cessna, Beechcraft, and Hawker aircraft, to transport Special Olympics athletes and coaches to the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota’s Twin Cities.
These volunteer pilots, affectionately known as “Doves”, are scheduled to fly on June 19 and June 27, 2026. Participating aircraft are expected to take off or land at St. Paul Downtown Airport Holman Field (KSTP) every three minutes over a 10-hour period on each day. Esteemed organizations such as the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) have formally endorsed the event.
Since its inception in 1987, the Special Olympics Airlift has seen Cessna, Beechcraft, and Hawker owners collectively transport more than 10,000 athletes and coaches to Special Olympics events worldwide. Owners of Cessna Citation jets, Beechcraft King Air turboprops, and Hawker aircraft can participate by generously donating their aircraft, crew, fuel, and time.
