Soaring Avgas Prices at $7.45/Gal Nationally: A Harsh Reality for GA Pilots

General aviation pilots across the United States are grappling with a significant financial burden this summer. The national average price for 100LL avgas has skyrocketed to a staggering $7.45 per gallon as of June 7, 2026. This unprecedented increase is exerting immense pressure on flight schools, aircraft owners, and small operators alike.

Data gathered from more than 3,212 FBOs reporting fuel prices nationwide reveal that Jet-A is averaging $7.83 per gallon. Meanwhile, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is priced at an exorbitant $9.87 per gallon. The regional disparities are quite pronounced. The FAA Alaska region reports the highest 100LL price at an average of $10.89 per gallon. In contrast, the most affordable 100LL can be located in the FAA Central region at approximately $6.72 per gallon.

The surge in prices is partially attributed to a jet fuel supply crunch that has affected all aviation sectors. World Fuel sales director Wesley Earl issued a warning at a Florida Aviation Business Association event in May. He stated that the jet fuel supply in the U.S. had dwindled to a mere 45 days of reserves. This is a concerning figure for an industry that is preparing for the peak summer flying season.

With major events like EAA AirVenture Oshkosh looming, the aviation community is keeping a close eye on whether prices will continue to soar or stabilize before the fall season. Many pilots have already started modifying their flight planning to seek out lower-priced fuel stops.
