Brazil Gives Green Light to Aerial Firefighting Floats
Momentum Aeronautics has achieved a significant international certification milestone for its Heatwave amphibious scooping float platform, gaining approval from Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC). This certification paves the way for aerial firefighting operators across South America.
The ANAC approval is the latest in a series of international certifications for the innovative firefighting system. It follows the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval and European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) STC validation. The system, designed specifically for the Air Tractor AT-802A aircraft, is now set to make a global impact.
“This certification in Brazil is another step toward getting Heatwave into the hands of operators,” said Dan Garrett, President and Founder of Momentum Aeronautics. “We’ve invested heavily in creating a platform that performs when it counts. We’re excited to see it go to work.”
The Heatwave platform boasts a range of features designed to optimize performance and safety. These include:
- A single-scoop-safe design that ensures safe operation even if one of the two scoops fails to deploy
- Structural reinforcement on the forward section to absorb wave impacts
- Optimized float positioning for water stability
- A fully redesigned nose landing gear system intended to smooth ground and water touchdowns
Despite limited production capacity, which is already sold out through 2026, Momentum Aeronautics is managing Brazilian market demand through its regional dealer, Frost Flying.
