Temporary Suspension of Virgin Atlantic’s Seattle Route Amid Market Adjustments

Virgin Atlantic has announced the temporary suspension of its London Heathrow to Seattle service for the winter 2026 season. The decision, driven by “evolving customer demand”, will see the airline resuming daily service on the route in March 2027.

“We have taken the difficult decision to temporarily suspend our services from Seattle for the winter 2026 season only. We intend to resume our daily service in March 2027,” a Virgin Atlantic spokesperson confirmed. The carrier reassured that customers can continue to travel between Seattle and London with strategic partner Delta Air Lines, which offers daily services on the route.

The temporary pause comes at a strategic moment as Alaska Airlines launched its competing Seattle-London service on May 21, 2026. This could potentially create market share opportunities for the newcomer. During Virgin Atlantic’s absence, Delta, British Airways, and Alaska Airlines will be the only carriers operating the route.

This suspension is part of broader network adjustments by Virgin Atlantic. The airline has also temporarily paused its seasonal Dubai service until winter 2027 and canceled its London-Riyadh route entirely. Instead, the carrier is focusing on increasing frequency to Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa. The winter season will see up to 10 weekly flights to Johannesburg and 11 weekly services to Cape Town.

Affected customers are being contacted with options for rebooking or refunds.
