Alaska Airlines Intensifies Competition with New Seattle-London Service

Alaska Airlines has officially entered the competitive Seattle-London Heathrow route. The daily Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner service, which began on May 21, 2026, marks a significant milestone in the airline’s transatlantic expansion strategy.

This new service puts Alaska Airlines in direct competition with established carriers such as Delta Air Lines, British Airways, and Virgin Atlantic. These airlines have long dominated one of the most commercially significant routes connecting the Pacific Northwest with Europe. As per the OAG Schedules Analyzer data, Alaska will operate approximately 4,200 two-way weekly seats on the route. This accounts for around 22 percent of the total available market capacity.

The aircraft features a total of 34 lie-flat Business Class seats, complete with premium amenities. These are targeted at high-yield business travelers from Seattle’s technology corridor. This includes employees from tech giants like Amazon and Microsoft. The economy cabin, on the other hand, offers 266 seats designed for long-haul comfort. This route represents Alaska’s second transatlantic service, following the successful launch of the Seattle-Rome Fiumicino route earlier in 2026.

The increased competition has already made a significant impact on pricing. Round-trip fares have seen a drop from an average of $1,100 to as low as $740. Alaska’s new Business Class Suites are priced starting at $3,400 round-trip. In response, British Airways and Delta have initiated frequent flash sales for their premium cabins.
