Diamond Aircraft Unveils Future Upgrades for DA62 MPP Special Mission

Diamond Aircraft’s Special Mission Aircraft Division has announced significant technical developments for its DA62 Multi-Purpose Platform. The company has unveiled an ambitious 2026 roadmap, focusing on enhanced mission capability and operational safety.

In 2025, the company completed major upgrades, including successful Starlink Mini flight trials for high-bandwidth communication. The maximum takeoff mass increased from 2,300 kg to 2,360 kg. The aircraft also received certification for flight into known icing conditions and an integrated diversity transponder to improve tracking with ground and satellite ADS-B systems.

2026 Upgrades

Looking ahead to 2026, Diamond plans to introduce several improvements:

  • An improved Beyond Line of Sight radome with reduced aerodynamic drag
  • A tail-mounted camera integrated into the Garmin G1000 display
  • Certification for non-eye-safe laser installations

The company is also developing a new universal mounting frame, the I-Frame, for carrying payloads such as LiDAR systems and droppable life rafts for maritime search and rescue operations.

Further enhancing the platform’s capabilities, a newly developed BR800 radar pod will allow integration of multi-mission surveillance radars. This will extend the platform’s capabilities for maritime, border surveillance, and reconnaissance missions for law enforcement and government operators worldwide.
