NBAA’s Ed Bolen Retires After 22 Years as Aviation’s Foremost Advocate
The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) announced Friday, November 6, 2026, that its longtime President and CEO, Ed Bolen, is retiring after more than 22 years leading the organization. Bolen, who has headed NBAA since 2004, cited health reasons—including ongoing cancer treatment—for his retirement.
Bolen stepped away from day-to-day responsibilities in September 2026 while undergoing treatment. NBAA’s Board of Directors has named Dan Hubbard, the organization’s Senior Vice President of Communications, as Acting CEO. A formal executive search committee, chaired by Matt Byrd, CEO of Hillwood Aviation, will seek a permanent successor.
Widely regarded as one of aviation’s most effective advocates, Bolen championed industry priorities throughout his career, including:
- Safety
- Airport and airspace access
- Workforce development
- Air traffic control modernization
Before joining NBAA, Bolen served as President and CEO of the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) from 1996 to 2004. NBAA Board Chair John Witzig said that “business aviation is an immeasurably stronger, safer, more dynamic industry” because of Bolen’s commitment. AOPA Acting Co-President Katie Pribyl called him “a true friend” to general aviation pilots everywhere.
