Airbnb to Launch AI Travel Agent in First Half of 2027
Airbnb is set to change how people plan and book vacations. On November 5, 2026, alongside its strong third-quarter financial results, the company announced that it will launch a specialized AI travel agent in the first half of 2027—and it won’t look like a typical chatbot.
Instead of a standard chat window, Airbnb’s AI agent will use a custom, AI-native interface that builds visual screens around users’ questions in real time. It could display photos, maps, listings, and itineraries as needed.
CEO Brian Chesky described this approach as “generative UI.” He said people won’t use one generic AI agent for everything, which is why Airbnb is building a specialized version of its own.
The agent will help travelers:
- Plan trips and compare accommodations
- Manage bookings and resolve payment issues
- Request refunds and access around-the-clock safety assistance
Airbnb ultimately aims to offer every vertical in travel natively within its app, from car rentals and flights to experiences. The vision could make Airbnb a one-stop shop for travel.
The announcement followed a strong third quarter for Airbnb. Revenue grew 19%, while 155 million nights and seats were booked, up 16% year over year. The company also raised its full-year 2026 revenue growth forecast to “the high teens.”
