Broadcom’s AI Backlog Reaches $73B as AI Chip Revenue Surges 106% YoY

Semiconductor powerhouse Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ: AVGO) has cemented its position in the artificial intelligence chip race, with its AI semiconductor backlog reaching a record $73 billion—enough to provide roughly 18 months of revenue visibility.

The figure was disclosed alongside the company’s Q1 fiscal 2026 earnings. Total revenue hit a record $19.3 billion, up 29% year over year and above analyst estimates.

AI chip revenue reached $8.4 billion in Q1, a 106% year-over-year increase that surpassed the company’s internal forecasts. CEO Hock Tan said Broadcom’s AI revenue growth is accelerating and projected $10.7 billion in AI semiconductor revenue for Q2 2026.

Broadcom designs custom AI accelerators for hyperscalers, including Google, Meta, Anthropic, and OpenAI, offering purpose-built alternatives to Nvidia’s general-purpose GPUs.

The AI networking segment also performed strongly, with revenue growing 60% year over year, driven by the Tomahawk 6 switch and 200G SerDes technology. Broadcom generated $8.01 billion in free cash flow during the quarter, equivalent to 41% of total revenue.

CEO Hock Tan has set a bold $100 billion AI chip revenue target for 2027, signaling confidence in sustained demand from cloud providers and enterprise customers.
