American Airlines Initiates Legal Action Against UK Travel Consortium in London High Court
American Airlines has initiated a legal dispute with a leading British travel agency consortium. The lawsuit was filed at the London High Court’s Intellectual Property Court on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. The claim has been brought forward by the US airline giant and its subsidiary, AAdvantage Loyalty IP, against Advantage Travel Centres, trading as Advantage Travel Partnership.
The crux of the dispute revolves around an aspect of the Advantage Travel Partnership’s recently revamped corporate logo. As per the records of the UK Intellectual Property Office, American Airlines and AAdvantage Loyalty IP possess multiple registered UK trademarks. These include those associated with the administration of its frequent-flyer loyalty rewards programmes.
Advantage Travel Partnership, a London-based consortium representing a multitude of independent leisure and corporate travel management companies, expressed astonishment at the legal action. A spokesperson from the group stated that they are striving to find a resolution that is agreeable to both parties. They also noted that the claim had not been formally served at the time of their response.
This case contributes to an escalating number of intellectual property disputes in the travel industry. It could potentially have significant implications on how travel brands manage their visual identities in the fiercely competitive UK market.
