European Sleeper Introduces Night Train Service from Brussels to Milan, Connecting Four Countries
Europe’s budget-friendly overnight rail travel has expanded with a significant new route. European Sleeper, the Dutch-Belgian open-access rail operator, inaugurated its Brussels–Milan night train on September 9, 2026, marking the first direct overnight rail link between northern Italy and Belgium.
The train runs three times a week in each direction. Departures from Brussels-Midi are at 19:10, with arrivals at Milan Porta Garibaldi at 11:40 the next morning. The southbound service operates on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from Brussels, while the northbound service leaves Milan on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
En route, passengers are treated to a scenic journey through four countries in a single sleepover trip. The train passes through Cologne, Germany and crosses the stunning Swiss Alps via the historic Gotthard route, with stops at Lugano and Como.
This service is a result of a partnership with Italian rail company Arenaways (partly owned by Renfe). It further extends European Sleeper’s growing network, which already includes connections from Brussels to Berlin, Dresden, Prague, and Hamburg. Fares start from just €29.99 for a seated budget ticket, with couchette berths from €49.99 and private Comfort Plus compartments, including breakfast, from €129.99. Interrail and Eurail pass holders can also book the service with a reservation fee.
Starting from December 2026, the route will extend further into the Netherlands, with stops in Antwerp, Breda, and Eindhoven. This expansion will provide a low-carbon travel option for millions more European travelers.
