L’Oréal and NUS Medicine Initiate Groundbreaking Skin-Aging Longevity Lab
In a significant stride for the beauty and wellness industry, L’Oréal Groupe has forged a multi-year strategic research alliance with the NUS Academy for Healthy Longevity at NUS Medicine (National University of Singapore). This partnership aims to delve into the correlation between skin health and the broader biological ageing process. A joint laboratory has been inaugurated at NUS Medicine’s Healthy Longevity Clinical Trial Centre in Singapore, marking the commencement of this collaboration.
This partnership brings together L’Oréal’s extensive experience of over 115 years in skin and hair science and NUS Medicine’s pioneering work in geroscience and precision geromedicine. The researchers will conduct comprehensive studies on participants by amalgamating advanced skin, scalp, and hair assessments with cardiovascular, metabolic, cognitive, and musculoskeletal measurements. These assessments will be carried out on the same clinical trial participants, providing a holistic view of their health and ageing process.
The central hypothesis of this research is audacious yet intriguing: Could skin, being the body’s largest and most accessible organ, serve as a reliable, non-invasive indicator of systemic biological ageing? This question is posed by Professor Andrea Maier, the founder and Director of the NUS Academy for Healthy Longevity.
