Tesla’s Robotaxi Arrives in Miami: A Significant Leap in Expansion

Tesla’s driverless Robotaxi service officially rolled into Miami on July 3, 2026. This marks the electric vehicle giant’s first autonomous ride-hailing launch outside of Texas and California. With this expansion, Florida becomes the third U.S. state to host Tesla’s fully driverless network, following earlier deployments in Austin, Dallas, and Houston.

The Miami service launched with no safety driver onboard from day one. This detail was confirmed by Tesla’s VP of AI Software, Ashok Elluswamy. The initial coverage zone spans roughly 10 to 14 square miles in western Miami-Dade County. This includes areas such as West Miami, Doral, and Coral Gables, with routes near Miami International Airport. However, Downtown Miami and Miami Beach are excluded from the launch zone for now.

The fleet currently runs Model Y vehicles, consistent with Tesla’s existing markets. The purpose-built Cybercab — a two-seat vehicle with no steering wheel or pedals — is expected to join the Miami fleet once volume production scales later in 2026. Tesla’s own roadmap lists Orlando, Tampa, Phoenix, and Las Vegas as the next markets in preparation.

The Miami launch gave Tesla’s stock a significant boost, with shares jumping approximately 7% to around $420 on Monday, July 7. The day before the Miami launch, Tesla had reported 480,126 second-quarter deliveries — up about 25% year over year. Investors and analysts remain cautiously optimistic, with Tesla’s Q2 earnings call scheduled for July 22 expected to shed more light on Robotaxi economics and revenue potential.
