Alphabet Inc. Set to Replace Verizon in Dow Jones Industrial Average
In a significant reshuffling of Wall Street’s most iconic index, Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL) — the parent company of Google — is poised to join the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) on June 29, 2026. This move will see Alphabet replacing the legacy telecom giant, Verizon Communications (VZ). The announcement was made by S&P Dow Jones Indices on Tuesday, June 23.
With this addition, Alphabet will stand alongside its mega-cap tech peers, including Nvidia, Amazon, Apple, and Microsoft in the prestigious 30-stock blue-chip index. S&P Dow Jones Indices expressed that Alphabet’s inclusion would “broaden and strengthen the DJIA’s exposure” to burgeoning sectors such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, healthcare technology, and digital advertising.
Verizon’s influence on the price-weighted Dow had dwindled to a mere 0.5% of the index due to its relatively low share price. In contrast, Alphabet’s higher market capitalization and share price will provide it with significantly more influence. Concurrently, Honeywell International will retain its position in the Dow, albeit under the new name, Honeywell Technologies, following its planned spin-off of Honeywell Aerospace on the same date.
