Revolutionizing Health Monitoring: Samsung’s Sensor OLED Display

Smartphone displays are set to become your next health monitor. Samsung Display recently unveiled a groundbreaking new prototype at SID Display Week 2026 in Los Angeles. This prototype, the Sensor OLED Display, is a 6.8-inch panel capable of measuring heart rate and blood pressure directly through a user’s fingertip.

The technology works by embedding Organic Photodiodes (OPDs) directly alongside standard OLED pixels within a single display layer. The screen emits light that reflects off the user’s skin, which is then captured by the built-in sensors to detect blood flow. This eliminates the need for a separate wearable device. Impressively, Samsung achieved this while maintaining a flagship-grade 500 pixels-per-inch (PPI) resolution, a 33% improvement over its previous Sensor OLED prototype shown in 2025.

Privacy is also a key feature of this new technology. The display integrates Samsung’s Flex Magic Pixel technology, which hides sensitive health data from anyone viewing the screen at an angle, while keeping the rest of the display visible normally. A second headline panel, the Flex Chroma Pixel, was also revealed. This panel is capable of hitting an industry-leading 3,000 nits of brightness and covering 96% of the BT.2020 color standard.

Although neither technology is ready for commercial production yet, both offer a clear preview of where future Galaxy flagship devices are heading.
