Elon Musk: The World’s First Trillionaire as SpaceX Goes Public
In an unprecedented achievement for both business and space exploration, Elon Musk has officially become the world’s first trillionaire. This monumental event followed the blockbuster initial public offering (IPO) of SpaceX on the Nasdaq. The rocket and satellite company priced its IPO at a staggering $135 per share, raising a record-breaking $75 billion. This IPO is the largest in history, valuing the company at approximately $1.77 trillion.
SpaceX shares made their debut on the Nasdaq at $150 per share under the ticker symbol SPCX. The shares surged well above the listing price, briefly hitting a high of $176.52 before settling at $160.95 at the end of the day. The IPO added a whopping $180 billion to Musk’s fortune. When combined with his Tesla stake worth approximately $280 billion, Musk’s total net worth from both companies reached an astounding $1.05 trillion. This makes him wealthier than the next five richest billionaires in the world combined.
“SpaceX aims to take you to the Moon, Mars, and ultimately beyond,” Musk stated at a launch event at the company’s Starbase, Texas headquarters. The IPO comes before the anticipated public offerings from AI giants Anthropic and OpenAI, both of which have reportedly filed confidential paperwork with the SEC.
