Sephora Pioneers AI Beauty Shopping in Google’s Ecosystem
Beauty retail titan, Sephora, has boldly stepped into the future of shopping. They recently announced an extended partnership with Google. This makes Sephora the first prestige beauty retailer to facilitate direct shopping within Google’s AI-powered platform through Google Agentic Checkout. This development, reported this week, empowers shoppers to discover products, delve into detailed beauty queries, construct personalized skincare or makeup routines, and finalize purchases — all within the confines of Google’s AI experience.
The initiative is a component of Sephora’s wider AI strategy. This already encompasses a Sephora app inside ChatGPT, an AI Beauty Chat on its website, and AI-powered skin diagnostics available both in-store and online. Sephora’s Smart Skin Scan on its app enables users to upload a selfie, receive an AI diagnostic, and obtain a tailored four-step product routine. Astonishingly, over 80% of users complete the scan and convert at higher rates. Upcoming phases of the Google partnership are anticipated to incorporate Sephora’s Beauty Insider loyalty program, which proudly claims over 80 million active members globally.
Sephora is positioning AI as a supplement to, not a substitute for, human expertise. They emphasize that beauty advisors remain at the heart of the customer experience. As an increasing number of consumers commence their product journeys within AI platforms, Sephora’s strategy ensures the brand intersects with shoppers at the crucial moment of discovery and intent.
