Soaring Avgas 100LL Prices: A Challenge for GA Pilots Ahead of AirVenture
General aviation pilots across the United States are bracing for a challenging summer. The national average price for 100LL avgas has soared to $7.45 per gallon as of June 7, 2026. This data, compiled from over 3,200 FBOs reporting fuel prices, indicates a steady upward trend. The figure marks a significant increase from May’s average of $7.27 per gallon, which was already up $0.31 from April. This escalation is exerting additional financial pressure on private pilots and flight schools as we approach the peak flying season.
There are stark regional disparities in these prices. Pilots in the FAA Alaska region are grappling with the highest average 100LL prices in the nation at a staggering $10.89 per gallon. In contrast, those in the FAA Central region can find some relief with prices around $6.72 per gallon. Nationally, Jet-A fuel averages $7.83, while Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) commands a hefty $9.87 per gallon.
As the highly anticipated EAA AirVenture Oshkosh event looms, many operators are questioning whether high fuel costs will impact expected participation numbers at this summer’s premier general aviation event. Analysts note that while prices remain below the inflation-adjusted peak of approximately $8.59 seen in 2022, the sustained upward trend is causing widespread concern within the grassroots flying community.
