April Sees a 5.8% Leap in Aviation Fuel Prices Due to Supply Worries
General aviation pilots are grappling with significantly higher fuel costs as national 100LL avgas prices soared to an average of $7.20 per gallon in April 2026. This marks a $0.40 (5.8%) increase from March, as per the latest data from iFlightPlanner. The price surge is universal, with 100LL Self Service averaging at $6.01, up by $0.33 (5.7%) month-over-month.
Hawaii reported the highest 100LL prices in the nation. Full Service reached $11.41 per gallon, up by $0.73 (6.9%) from March, while Self Service climbed to $9.56, an increase of $0.81 (9.2%). Regional Jet A Full Service pricing also witnessed an upswing across all Lower 48 regions, spearheaded by the Western-Pacific region at $8.47, up by $0.66 (8.5%). In Hawaii, Jet A Full Service averaged at $11.08, representing a dramatic $2.66 (31.5%) month-over-month increase.
The data, gathered from 3,349 FBOs and fuel service providers across the United States, mirrors ongoing supply chain pressures and geopolitical factors influencing the aviation fuel market. The price hikes coincide with the general aviation industry experiencing robust demand. Industry experts highlight that fuel costs now account for approximately 25% of total flight operating expenses.
